HARDWORKING schoolgirls were recognised for their efforts with a prizegiving ceremony.
Pupils at Southend High School for Girls were handed awards for achievements, success and best progress in the school last year.
There were also prizes for contributions to the life of the school, drama, music and sporting achievement.
Headteacher Alison Clewlow, joined by Dr Linda Barnard, chairman of governors, presented prizes and certificates to students in years 8, 9 and 10.
Prizes were also presented this year by former pupil Carina Fearnley.
Ms Fearnley, who is currently studying for a PhD in volcano early warning systems at University College, London, said: “I truly believe in a good education, and I hope that through my experiences I can impart words of support for exploration and questioning knowledge about the world around us.”
