England basketball star Louise Gamman is calling for the sport to be kept in the Commonwealth Games.

Gamman, a former pupil of Hockley's Greensward School, helped her country win the bronze medal in Melbourne last month.

And she now hopes to have the opportunity to secure more success in four years time when the Games take place in Delhi.

"There are doubts over whether Basketball will be in the next Commonwealth Games," said Gammon, 22.

"There were reports out in Australia which suggested it might be taken out with either snooker or cricket coming in but I think that would be a real shame. Basketball is a very exciting and popular sport and the crowds who watched it over in Melbourne loved it."
