Andrew Smith, contracts supervisor at Castle Point Council, blames unseasonal weather for rubbish not being collected on Canvey seafront at the weekend (May 24).

It is the last week of May, for goodness sake, one month away from the longest day of the year. If we cannot expect warm sunny weather now, when should we expect it?

I suggest Mr Smith gets himself a tide timetable. It will show him this is not the first time the tide has been out during the day since January. I am sure the contractors used by the council have not been fully employed since then, either.

The council is also clearly intent on causing as much disruption to the beach as possible by starting noisy pool work now, at the start of the summer season.

The major works on the new pool in 2008 were also started once the weather had turned warm, and what chaos that caused.

Just an idea, but if the cleaner went out at the end of the day to empty the bins, it would make the work a lot quicker and easier in the morning and would also help prevent the wind and foxes scattering rubbish everywhere.
