Malcolm Buckley, Basildon councillor responsible for the environment, should not be making threats of housing estates to be built on Basildon Golf Course simply because the defenders of the site are concerned with the area’s biodiversity being lost.

I also take issue with the correspondent stating it’s selfish of residents to oppose more homes on our green belt.

The term green belt is very much debatable in itself, as apparently this includes the farmland and ploughed fields surrounding our district.

The fact is, ploughed fields and grasslands devoid of flowering plants are not much use to man or beast, save those who over eat through greed or for comfort.

I am fed up with hearing the same old muddle and fudge. We have the resolutions to our problems today.

Government and local councils should listen to the people.

Ask before you take and we may allow you a little more land, though not playing fields, community greens or nature’s home.

To developers, wayward councillors and brainwashed politicians I say this: You have caused enough upset and misery, enough is enough. Get on with your job and listen to the people.
