Reading Echo (May 20), there were two items that beggared belief.

First, the story of an untaxed vehicle being pushed on to the road so grass could be cut for someone’s funeral.

Within hours a council unit was on hand to clamp the vehicle on the instruction of the DVLA.

As this was an out-of-the-way road, I wonder who tipped the DVLA off.

However, as a result, the police were called and on their advice the vehicle was declamped. One wonders how long the police were in attendance during this three-hour stand off.

Then a few pages later there was an article of a car rolling down a hill in Leigh and blocking traffic.

Again the police were in attendance and had to wait for the commuter to return from London. How long were the police in attendance as there was a wait of some two hours?

Surely the police could have had the vehicle removed within the two hours.

It seems to me with the number of police officers that must have been involved for both incidents they must have time on their hands.
