A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital with multiple injuries after an early morning smash.

The crash happened at around 6am on Friday on the A130 slip-road on the London-bound track of the A127.

It involved a pedal cycle, ridden by a 49-year-old man from Southend and a Fiat Cinquecento, driven by a 52-year-old man also from Southend.

The cyclist was taken to Basildon hospital with possible fractures and a head injury.

The slip-road remains closed and is not expected to repoen until 11.30am.

The crash caused traffic chaos as motorists queued to get off the carriageway at the A132 Nevendon junction to join the A130.
