As far as I am aware, static speed cameras should be visible to motorists who approach them.

Approaching Wickford town centre on London Road, there is a camera which was vandalised. The camera has been replaced and the hedge around it trimmed, but not the foliage leading up to it, making the camera invisible on approach.

I contacted Basildon Council about this and also mentioned signs and markings in the area are missing, hidden, ambiguous or faded, and was told that, under the cutbacks, trimming foliage is the least of the council’s priorities.

Signage giving orders, warnings and directions are located for a reason.

How can the council expect road users to comply with the law if the it does not uphold its own responsibility?
