I wonder what planet Basildon Council leader Tony Ball (Oct 5) comes from to assume senior citizens are better off than low income earners when contemplating charging them over 20 per cent more to use the sporting village swimming pool?
I agree Gloucester Park pool needs a lick of paint and refurbishment, along with a 25metre partition, but I am not convinced by council scaremongering and propaganda regarding repair costs.
Initially, these were stated as £1million, but within months have escalated to £12million.
With regard to open space and playing fields, I note neither Billericay nor Wickford have sacrificed one iota, but I guess Mr Ball dare not offend Tory strongholds.
