I took my dog for a walk along Southend seafront and was incensed by cyclists still riding on the pavement.

What is wrong with these people? Their excuse used to be it was dangerous to ride on the road, but now they have a cycle lane and are still riding along or should I say speeding along with scant regard for pedestrians who actually have every right to walk along on the pavement without fear of being mown down.

I lost count of the smug cyclists who sped past me.

Why can’t they be fined?

No doubt if us dog walkers or mothers with pushchairs decided to walk in their cycle path they would soon complain.

...I am fed up with people who whinge about having more cycle lanes.

I am both a motorist and an occasional cyclist. As a motorist I find it far better to overtake a cyclist who is in a cycle lane than one who is on the road, as anyone with any commonsense would agree.

As a cyclist it is so obviously safer to be in a cycle lane. I cannot abide the selfish drivers who would rather I and other cyclists, including children, take the more dangerous option of riding on the road.

Their lack of thoughtfulness for others I find very sad
