The article about the Focus, in Southend (Oct 6), bought back so many memories of when I used to go there almost every night in the early 70s when my sisters and I were teenagers.
It was called Southend Youth Centre in those days.
I have very fond memories of dancing to the likes of Slade, Sweet and Mud on the jukebox, stealing a kiss in the darkened TV room, or washing the hair of the boy you fancied. Sounds bizarre now, but at the time it counted as foreplay!
There was also the trampoline or football in the sports hall and a little snack bar and kitchen where we used to make enamel jewellery.
Also, if you walked there you could spend your bus fare on a bag of chips from the Porte Via in Southchurch Road on the way home.
Those really were the days!
