Dogs are surviving in squalor within rat-infested makeshift kennels in a Vange field, the Echo can reveal.
Former police dog trainer Keith Dukeson said the conditions were the worst he had seen during his 35-year career.
Dog breeder Fiona-Cole Wilkin, 38, and husband Brian, 63, rent the field off London Road, from the Diocese of Chelmsford.
