To receive radiotherapy for cancer, you have to go to Southend Hospital. I have received treatment there on many occasions.
On my last visit, my son parked in the blue badge bays immediately outside the treatment areas, with my badge clearly displayed and timed.
We returned to find a ticket for £80, or £40 if paid early. I wrote to Southend Hospital and eventually the charge was cancelled on compassionate grounds.
However, a closing note said charges had been agreed with local disability groups and that alternative concessionary parking had been arranged elsewhere.
I would be expected to travel on crutches from the other side of the hospital to my treatment area when there are disability bays right outside, but if you want to park there you have to pay.
Who made these stupid rules and why did disability groups agree?
