I live in Westcliff, where the parking of vehicles on pavements and double yellow lines is an everyday occurrence.

As a pedestrian, I can see the advantages of spy cars.

Some vehicle owners ignore yellow lines and park their vehicles where they want to, which in turn restricts the view of other drivers and reduces the ability of the pedestrian to cross safely.

If the cameras were automatic number plate recognition compliant, the DVLA could be persuaded to financially support the scheme, reducing the amount of untaxed vehicles and those with no MoT on the highway.

When vehicles parked at bus stops, buses are prevented from using them, causing problems for passengers and other drivers who are unable to pass a stationary bus. Could the scheme be adapted to sort out this problem?

The only people who will complain are the vehicle owners who are selfish or lazy and have little regard for other people. People who don’t abide by the Highway Code deserve to be penalised.

...I see some people are objecting to Southend Council’s purchase of spy cars to enforce parking restrictions.

There is a solution.

Don’t park in stupid places, then you won’t get fined. Then the council won’t earn any revenue from their spy cars and they’ll be scrapped.
