A YOB sank at least eight pints of lager and went on a rampage at a Westcliff pub after staff refused to serve him another.

Darryl Moth, 19, flew into a rage at the Cricketers pub, London Road, and began yelling vile abuse at staff and punters.

Staff eventually managed to get him out and then locked the doors, keeping everyone else safely inside.

However, Moth then began to repeatedly punch a window until it smashed, causing £300 damage.

Yesterday Moth, of Burdett Avenue, Westcliff, appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and criminal damage. Suzanne Stringer, proecuting said: “He ran away from police as they were trying to put handcuffs on him, although he didn’t get far.

“He ran into the back of the public house and he was handcuffed there.”

The court heard the trouble started after barmaid Tina Sparks refused to give Moth another drink as he had clearly had enough.

He started shouting at people “come outside”, and called her and the deputy manager “mugs” and “idiots”.

They kicked him out and called police at about 11.15pm on Tuesday, July 21.

Moth was put on an electronic tag and will be under curfew.

This means he must be in his house between the hours of 8pm and 6am for the next two months.

He must also complete 100 hours of unpaid work, pay £300 compensation to the pub and £95 costs.

The court also banned him from the Cricketers for the next two years, unless he is given permission from the licencee to go back.
