A COMMUNITY has rallied round a ten-year-old boy who is suffering from a brain tumour.

Brave Danny Green, of Hallet Road, Canvey, was diagnosed in November, after his mother, Lisa Green, took him to hospital because he was suffering persistent headaches and stomach pains.

Since the Echo told Danny’s story last month his family have said complete strangers have contacted them offering them help and organising charity events to raise money for him.

Donations have also come in from the Phoenix Karate Club, based on the Charfleets Industrial Estate, Canvey, the Mala Dance group, which trains in Winter Gardens Baptist Church, Hilton Road, Canvey, and Canvey Island Football Club based in Park Lane, Canvey.

Danny’s cousin Sarah Hauntes, 36, of Eversley Road, Benfleet, said: “Complete strangers have been ringing us up telling us they have held raffles and things to help raise money for Danny.

“It’s so nice to know he is being thought of and spirited people in the community are coming together to do things for him.”

Meanwhile, Danny’s family raised £4,600 to support him by holding a sponsored walk.

About 140 people turned out for the walk, which started and finished at the Lobster Smack, in Haven Road, Canvey.

Sarah, who helped organise the walk, said: “It went absolutely brilliantly. We never expected so many people to turn up.

“The money will mean so much to his parents. Not only will it give them a bit of financial relief while Danny is in hospital, but it could go towards any special treatment or arrangements that may need to be made when he gets out.”

Danny, who attends Leigh Beck Junior School, Point Road, Canvey, is about to complete his first round of chemotherapy at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, in London.

Doctors removed the tumour two months ago.

After that, Danny will undergo a course of radiotherapy and another round of chemotherapy.

Sarah said: “He is quite a little trooper for a ten year old. He has completely amazed us with his determination not to let this beat him. I know Danny will fight this every step of the way.”
