SNAPPY satirical lyrics and a lighthearted take on a serious subject has seen Southend musician Doogie Hunter make his way to the top of the charts on music website Beat 100.

Doogie teamed up with outfit Us and Them to record the comical hit I’m a Banker, a lively ukelele tune with ambling lyrics and a heavy dose of satire, which impressed site viewers so much they voted it to number one in last month’s charts and won Doogie a cash prize.

Also gathering fans were Nothing But Thieves, whose soulful version of Queen’s the Show Must Go On won over viewers to propel them into second place.

It’s no mean feat taking on a number made famous by Freddie Mercury, but the band gave the emotional song their own twist and infused it with their sound while paying homage to the original.

And another tribute to a great came third, with Aaron Lordson’s cover of Louis Armstrong’s famous What a Wonderful World.

It marks another month of success for the website, which sees musicians and artists upload videos which are then filtered into a chart according to views – with cash prizes for the chart toppers.
