HE may have made it to the West End, where he’s working with some of the top names in the business, but the bright lights of London have no allure for Steve Leeds.

The Essex lad has no plans to leave his Leigh home, despite being part of smash hit kids’ production the Go!Go!Go! Show, which following a tour of the country, that included Southend, is now running for the summer in the West End.

“I don’t think I’ll ever leave Essex,” laughs Steve, who grew up in Corringham, but now lives in Leigh. “I trained at Masters – I was really pleased I didn’t have to go anywhere else. I got into quite a few places, but I wanted to stay in the area.”

Steve’s latest stage in his career sees him cavorting on stage as part of the Go!Go!Go! Show. The show is the brainchild of Mike Stock – of songwriting and production outfit Stock Aitken Waterman – and Steve Crosby, who conceived and masterminded pop group Steps.

The popular kids’ stage show sees a group of five friends wake up one morning to find all their socks have been stolen by a mysterious creature called the Fluffalope, and they set out to find its home.

With plenty of music and dancing, it’s been a hit with little ones, and their parents, and Steve says he thinks the show is set to be another constant in his life.

“We all get on really well,” he enthuses. “It’s such a positive show. It’s not just the kids who really love it, it’s a real family show.

“The best part is meeting the kids after we’ve done a show.

“The kids feel really bonded to us all. They come up and tell us all their personal secrets. Their parents say ‘they don’t tell us that kind of stuff’, which shows they think of us as their friends – it’s brilliant.

“This is a show we’ve been working on for three years, working towards where we’re going in the future – I’ve got no plans to go anywhere else. The plan is to take over the world really!”

The show sees the group of friends play enthusiastic versions of themselves – so Steve gets to be Steve on stage as well as off, and brings all his own interests into his role.

“We get to play ourselves really,” he says.

“People are like ‘what’s you’re real name?’ And it’s like ‘my real name’s Steve’. I’m sporty, I always have been into my football and martial arts, so it’s the sports side of things for me in the show.

“How we dress is how we’d dress anyway, but a bit more caricaturey.

“As soon as you come out you know which kids are going to like you – I definitely get the little boys who like football and sport.”

It’s not just kids who lap up the all-singing, all-dancing poptastic show, their parents love it just as much.

“We’ve got some great pop songs written by Mike Stock and Steve Crosby,” says Steve.

“We’ve had parents come out and say ‘we’ve had your CD on non-stop in the car’. We say we’re sorry about that, but they’ve said ‘what are you talking about? The kids haven’t even been in the car, we’ve just been playing it’.”

Steve stars in the Go!Go!Go! Show at London’s Empire, Leicester Square from June 2 to August 31.
