Wickford and Belhus both continued their unbeaten start to the season with victories on Saturday.

Wickford won by 18 runs at local rivals Leigh on Sea while Belhus, who were promoted from Division Three last season, won by 19 runs at Horndon on the Hill.

Belhus batted first after winning the toss and ended their innings on 231-9.

Opener Gavin Jefferies top scored with 62 and number three Joe Joyce hit 41.

Theo Foley, Kashif Nizami and Thomas Moseley all took two wickets each for Horndon before they were bowled out for 212 in 46 overs.

Skipper Jeff West scored 83 and Nizami made 38 but it was not enough to stop their side suffering defeat as Belhus also shared around the wickets.

Connor Day, Jamie Riley and Gavin Jefferies took a pair of wickets each as Belhus made it two wins out of two after beating Gidea Park and Romford on the opening day of the season.

Wickford are also boasting a 100 per cent record after they narrowly saw off Leigh.

Wickford batted first and scored 225 all out before Leigh were bowled out for 207 in reply.

Stanford le Hope were also celebrating after beating Old Southendian and Southchurch by 17 runs.

Stanford made 244-7 in their innings, thanks to 81 from opener Luke Abbey, 55 not out from Michael Gray and 44 from Chay Hedges.

Matthew Austin, Adam Hunt and Aaron Lucas all took two wickets each for Southendians, who then ended up on 227-9.

Rob Johnston scored 134 for Sothendians but their second highest scorer was Robert Dodson with just 19 as Stanford came out on top, with Abbey taking three wickets for 30 runs.

But it was a bad day for both Westcliff and Basildon as they crashed to defeats.

Westcliff were beaten by seven wickets at Harold Wood.

They were bowled out for just 133 before the home side passed that total for the loss of just three wickets.

Basildon were beaten even more convincingly, as they lost by eight wickets at Gidea Park and Romford.

Basildon made 159-9 in their innings with Lee Lewis scoring 45.

And that total was never going to trouble the home side who lost just two wickets on their way to a victorious 160-2.
