BLUESMAN Papa George is back at the New Crawdaddy tonight, this time with a guest guitarist from Hawaii.

George’s band is made up of bassist Pete Stroud, formerly of Peter Green’s Splinter Group, and Sam Kelly on drums. George himself sings and plays guitar.

The players are no strangers to top billing, having between them appeared with the likes of Gary Moore, Zoot Money, Freddie Mercury, Paul Jones, Roger Chapman, and PP Arnold.

For tonight’s gig, they are joined by Ken Emerson, who was brought up in Hawaii, where he learned to play guitar, blending tradition slide styles with jazz and blues.

Ken won the first Grammy Award for Hawaiian music in 2005.

He has toured with many luminaries in the music world, including Taj Mahal, Boz Scaggs, Jackson Browne, Donald Fagen, Charlie Musslewhite, Graham Nash and Elvin Bishop.

Papa George and Ken Emerson play the New Crawdaddy Blues Club at the Belvedere, Hardings Elms Road, Crays Hill, Billericay, tonight. Doors open at 8pm, admission is £7. For information, call 01702 347007 or visit: www.newcrawdaddyclub.co.uk
