Updated: Man charged following Rayleigh attack

A MAN has been charged after being arrested at Stansted Airport following an attack outside a takeaway in Rayleigh.

Police were flagged down just before 1.30am on Saturday in Eastwood Road following reports a man in his 40s was being assaulted.

He was taken to Southend Hospital with a head injury but was later transferred to Queens Hospital in Romford where his condition is described as serious.

The 25-year-old man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Daniel Humphries, of Bull Lane, Rayleigh, was charged last night and was detained in custody to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Southend police station on 101.
