Teenager caught trying to burgle Southend United...and gets slap on wrist Teenager caught trying to burgle Southend United...and gets slap on wrist

A TEENAGER caught trying to burgle Southend United’s home ground has been given a slap on the wrist.

The 14-year-old miscreant had got into Roots Hall with the intention of stealing from inside.

He and an accomplice had made their way to the Far Post bar before they were spotted by security.

The boy was hiding behind the bar, but was then chased into the kitchen area before being apprehended.

Police were then called to the scene, on Thursday May 24, to arrest him and put him before the courts.

Luckily, nothing was stolen during the incident and no damage was caused to the building.

The boy, who is from Westcliff but cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Southend Youth Court.

He pleaded guilty to burglary and was given a six month referral order.

This means he must attend appointments with the Youth Offending Service for the next six months in an effort to address his offending behaviour.

He must also pay £15 in court costs.

A spokesman for Southend United said they hoped the teenager would learn from this.

He said: “This sort of crime, whilst maybe considered petty, can cost the football club hundreds of pounds in lost stock.

"We hope today’s sentence will help this youngster understand the consequences of his actions.”

"Whilst maybe considered petty". Burglary is not considered petty. The only ones to think Burglary is petty are the COURTS.

I bet this low lifw would not like if his house was burgled. The courts should make examples of these people. wow £15 make it £1'500 & send him to a youngs offenders prision for 6 months. No tv, No computer, No mobile phones. a small cell let them out for dinner only.

He really needs some professional help if he thought there would be anything worth stealing at Roots Hall; Ron's already sold anything of value to pay the taxman :-)

I hope the appointments with the youth offending service do not interfere with his education. Saturday afternoons would be a good time.

They should of given him a season ticket. That would of put him off doing it again.
