Police have arrested a man they wish to speak to in connection with a sexual assault last week.

A woman was raped in the underpass near the Odeon, in Southend town centre, at about 4am in the morning of November 12.

The 18-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was out in Southend when she got separated from friends towards the end of the night.

Her aunt spoke to the Echo in the hope of raising awareness about the incident to prevent it from happening to anyone else.

Now police have arrested man the wish to speak to as part of their investigation.

A police spokesman said: "We are no longer looking for Anthony Almond, 33, in connection with a rape in Southend.

"We arrested a man on suspicion of rape in Chichester Road, Southend, at around 1pm today (Tuesday, November 21). He remains in custody for questioning."
