I was shocked to learn residents of west Shoebury ward were neither informed nor given a chance to voice their objections before the work started on the sea defence improvements at Gunners Park (Sept 29).

Having three Conservative councillors representing the ward, I would have thought that at least one of them would have taken the time to circulate a leaflet explaining what was going on, especially as they are so fond of sending out leaflets on other occasions.

Fortunately for the people living on the opposite side of Ness Road, in Shoeburyness ward, a newsletter was sent out by myself and Independent councillor Mike Assenheim explaining the need for improvements and the steps being taken to protect the two badger setts that will be displaced.
