A SPECIAL meeting will be held to decide if a revamp of a popular golf course can go ahead.

Rochford District councillors decided they did not have enough information about the plans to reshape and landscape Lords Golf Club, in Hullbridge Road, Rayleigh, during a development control committee meeting.

Instead, they will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 13 at 7pm to decide further action, before the expiry of the determination period three days later, on March 16.

Council officers had recommended the proposals for approval subject to a list of conditions, but councillors were unhappy full consultations had not been received from Essex County Council and the Environment Agency.

Chris Black (Lib Dem, Downhall and Rawreth) said: "My main concern is about traffic and the number of lorries is staggering.

"There are 46 trucks per day for three years and there is a footway on one side, but that location is getting busier and busier.

"It is becoming more and more dangerous and there is no footway on this side of the road. In view of all this, if they are doing so much work over three years I would like to see them create another a footway. I would be against this being passed without that being agreed."

A full discussion and decision on the plans will be made at the next meeting.
