Councillor Duncan Lumley and volunteers help paint over graffiti
RESIDENTS picked up paint brushes to help rid their town of unwanted graffiti.
Fourteen volunteers from South Woodham Ferrers painting over graffiti in Clements Dam West.
Working with Chelmsford Council's Neighbourhood Environmental Action Team, the volunteers have been trying to keep the Environment Agency structure clean of graffiti, along with other parts of the area.
Duncan Lumley, who looks after the borough's strategic housing and environment, said: "An area contaminated with graffiti implies the community doesn't care and gives the same signals to people with criminal intent.
"Removing, or painting over graffiti as soon as possible, prevents property from becoming a popular site for more vandalism."
Anyone in the area who wants to clear a small area of graffiti can contact Chelmsford Council, which can provide a graffiti removal kit. Call 01245 606800, or visit www.chelmsford.gov.uk/neat

Yes great idea, Steve of Leigh - but just try catching the idiots who go round daubing graffiti, have you ever seen any of them? No, I didn't think so. They operate at times of day/night when no-one normal is out and about.

That 'FL CREW' slogan will stay on the bridge for years to come, my partner emailed the council last year asking why it takes so long to get the rooftops in the high street cleared up as the ones from
clares accessories onwards are a disgace, as well as 'Aper' above footlocker, all she got was a snotty response from someone called Karen which implied the council are not really bothered as its up to the shop keepers and stopped short of suggesting if she really doesnt like it she gets a ladder and a tin of emulsion herself

that 'FLCREW' will be on the bridge for years, look how long it takes to get the high street roof tops cleaned! my girlfriend emailed the council and was given a stroppy answer of 'not our problem' and pretty much said if she had an issue she should get a ladder and tin of paint to clean it up herself!
