Spot on, thanks to Maggie selling off the housing stock and future Governments for not building any new dwellings. Is it any wonder we are where we are.

Why are immigrants on the council housing waiting list? If they cant afford to pay rent, they are not contributing enough to this country, they have no reason to even be here, and if they are immigrants then they have no local connection to basildon.

Not forgetting that not everybody can afford a mortgage

MPs with 2 houses, meaningless marriage vows so mummy lives here and daddy lives there, young women getting pregnant to get a flat, young women with a flat getting pregnant again to get a house, an economy so rotten no-one is buying homes, too many people coming here to get a home, and too many stupid politicians, both local and national.

there is a council house not far from me, that has been empty for nearly a year, the old lady that lived there passed away,and her daughter who owns her own house has put in for this council house,claiming that she lived there with her mum,all lies, the fraud department was informed of this months ago,yet she still has the keys and still dosnt live there ,so get them to explain that one ,as i cant understand it

this was why in 'the old days' support was only given to those whose residence for years was in that parish and they were returned or asked to return to their parish of settlement.

The government should be charging the immigrants country of origin for the full cost of their stay if they are not in work and paying their own way.

theres loads of houses at craylands that need filling! if they need a house that bad why dont they accept them?
and you know the worse thing, the plot of land behind the hospital, including the local riding school, livery yard and competition centre is going to be knocked down and built houses on....not any old houses that can be used to house people who need it, or even at a reasonable price for first time buyers, but 4-5 bedroom luxury houses with landscapped gardens!!!

A little diversity in operation here? Without the Labour party how many council houses do you think would have been in existence, and do you remember how many people were living in the asbestos ridden Nissen huts under private landlords?

Why do they keep saying the reason there is a shortage of housing is immigration. We dont need to be told because we can work this simple fact out ourselves. It was hard enough for the English families to get houses and now they drop down the housing list to accommodate the massive influx of migrating beggars.

Do we need to keep being told the problem, we already know the problem. It needs someone to say enough is enough and sort this debacle out and STOP anymore immigrants coming in and taking our homes. Please explain. There are 9 asylum seeker families in Vange that arrived November and December and they have already been housed by the Basildon council. Please explain also that 3 migrants families from Eastern Europe who arrived here October have been given houses in Felmores and vange this Month ?

There are 68 English families on the Basildon council waiting list since April 2012 and since then 23 immigrant families including Congolese Somalian Iraqie Lithuanian and an Egyptian family been housed and all these did not arrive in the UK until september 2012.

Please explain because I would like to know as you seem to know everthing and will be able to tell me and all the other readers WHY ?

I will only give you facts on all matters. I only tell truths What I have told you are exact numbers. Shelter is funded by the government and rely on donations and they will only print things that makes them look good and justifys them raking in big money. I do not believe anything that they say.

So please do tell , what is the source of your detailed facts and precise numbers for these families?

BTW Shelter is a much respected charity of long standing which derives only 21% of its income from grants. It's advice comes from information in the public domain and is freely published it on its site.

if you havent lived in the area for 5 years then you should not get a house. Single mothers should not be given a house or separate accommodation than that they were in before getting pregnant. Time for the errant fathers to be made to pay up and the mothers name them or lose benefit.

Whilst agreeing with the meat of your viewpoint, I think the time must be near when mothers take the responsibility of their decision not to marry, and then have children that will be kept by the state. They are old enough to have children then they are old enough to pay for their upkeep. What might alleviate the situation would be a crackdown on illegal subletting and a requirement for any single person or couple living in a property of more than 2 bedrooms to move to a smaller one, thus leaving larger flats and houses for families. How do you actually know the reasons why there are 4000 people on the waiting list? Do you know all about overcrowding, living in shared accommodation, living in houses that are not suitable for human habitation? People sharing separated accommodation? condemned housing?
There are many reasons that people are put on to the waiting list and not all of them obvious.
To say "they are not sleeping on the streets" and "as a matter of principle" shows an oversimplified view, probably from someone not from the working class. As for "moving to a smaller house" that is a bit cruel I think. Without considering your circumstances, would you like it if you had a 4 bedroom house someone knocked at your door and said "Right, your property is too large for your circumstances, you have to move into a 1 bedroom flat!" Of course not. But then of course, you probably live in your own property, as do I, but is that any reason to under occupy in these hard times? Wouldn't it be better if the selfish classes paid everybody a decent living wage and enabled every working person to buy their own property? It would raise the living standards of all of us and allow for a huge increase in the number of employed. Trouble is, the fatted cats want everybody else to work for peanuts then moan when things like this happen. The government stated that we are desperately short of skilled workers, so wedged open the door to that sector of immigration. If they hadn't disbanded apprenticeships (once again out of greed) we would not have had this gap. No matter which way one looks at these problems, it always comes down to mismanagement.

I am still awaiting where these facts originate from, perhaps they are not facts after all and are rumour and propaganda. To know the exact dates of arivals and housing circumstances of some 3 dozen families in another part of the county to where you live seems odd to me.

Have you actually ever seen a hard grafting person? By which I mean someone who does not sit in a Revolving chair tapping comments onto various newspapers or social networks, doing what passes for earning a living?

I think that there are far too many people in this country who actually believe they earn a living. I am not talking about gamblers on the stock market, but people who leave the job dirty, sweaty, hungry and in need of a stiff pint. why does everybody blame the out of work for the countries ailments? How many of those in Basildon moved here because that's where the work went, only to be let down by useless, do nothing management. That is where you should look for the reason so many are unemployed, those that lived off the backs of the workforce did not do their share of the graft and keep us all gainfully employed!
