A TEENAGER was glassed in the face during a brawl in a seafront casino.

The violence erupted at the Genting Club, in Western Esplanade, where the victim was brutally attacked with a pint glass.

Ben Garrett, 19, had to have stitches around his mouth and to the bridge of his nose, after glass shattered in his face.

He also had a chunk gouged out of his skin by his ear, which surgeons were unable to stitch back together.

He said: “It’s hard for me to walk outside because people are looking at me. I look like Frankenstein. “

Some of the cuts are so close to my eyes it could have been catastrophic and I think the lowlife that did it needs to be caught. It’s a gutless thing to do.”

Mr Garrett, who lives in Corringham, had been drinking at the bar with one of his friends when a group approached looking for trouble.

Police want to speak to witnesses who may have seen the attack in the bar area at about 2.30am on Friday.

Det Con Dangerfield said “There was a female who was with the suspect’s group that we are keen to speak to because we think she came back to check on the welfare of the man that had been glassed.”

The suspect was white, slim man aged 20 to in his 30s. He had short dark hair and was wearing a grey hoody and jeans. He also had an injury to his right hand, likely to be from the broken glass.

Anyone with any information contact Det Con Dangerfield at Southend CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A,, his injuries look quite minor for a glassing he can count himself lucky, certanly not Frankenstein.

I thought all casino's legally require you to be a member or a guest of a member so the police must be able to get details of that membership?

you can just waltz in with a hoodie and jeans, you can get a temp card for the machines so you can cash out, age limit should be raised too....but its a money thing...£££££ ...wonder if a paraffin lamp would get inside...if he has a pocket of dosh more than likely.
theres a concoction of people that go in....some nice some not so., its a shame after all that cash they have spent making it look hi-class but has low class patrons too.

I went to the casino back in January - I hadn't been there for about 8 years. When I use to go in my early 30's it was always quite a grand place to visit for a special night out - people use to dress up for the ocassion - no trainers and it was always smart wear. There was also a grand feeling to the place - it had a lovely atmosphere.

Anyway I'm now 40 and I went to the casino after our work party at christmas - I was so surprised by how much it had changed. No ID required, no membership required, the games hall resembled a nightclub rather than a smart casino, it was full of 18-21 year olds with trainers, jeans and hoodies on - I really couldn't believe it.

Actually I felt a bit sad, although it will still be a good night out it has lost it's once special and prestigious atmosphere.

The fact that he was willing to re-don the 'blood soaked' T-shirt for the photo call says it all really....

P.S. I've had bigger scratches on my knob!

Did he take the T-shirt off then? It saddens me the way people accept "Glassing" as part of our everyday language, why has trouble these days always got to involve violence and weapons? What kind of low lives have the drug controlled kids of today become?
As for the subtle comment of Soouthchurch59 regarding the volume control on his I player, put it in a purse, before putting it in your handbag, that will keep the scratches off it!

Nothing wrong with the Genting club. I go there regularly but not on the weekends when a lot of undesirables are about everywhere.

Good God! Doesn't anyone read!?

Frankenstein was the Professor, not the monster!

He doesn't look like the professor or the monster for that matter. He just looks like a young man with a scar on his face.
