A MAN who claimed more than £38,000 in benefits while working as a security guard may now lose his house.
Vladimir Akinin, 67, of Littlebury Breen, Basildon admitted claiming £15,249 in incapacity benefit and £23,033 in pension credit despite working, when he appeared at Basildon Crown Court.
Authorities will now attempt to claw back the remaining money, possibly through the sale of his house.
Judge Jonathan Black, sentencing, said: “Benefits in this country are provided for those who really need them.
“When those who don’t need them claim them, it not only means there is less in the pot for those who genuinely need them, but brings in to disrepute the system of benefits and benefits claimants.
“Your actions have contributed to the public perception that that is why the cost of benefits to the country is as great as it is.”
