PART of a bowling alley and snooker club in Leigh will soon be demolished to make way for eight new houses.

But bosses at Rileys – which ran both the attractions at the Broadway Superbowl in Leigh Road – said they are confident the snooker club will reopen in what remains of the building, even though it is currently up for sale.

Chartered surveyors and commercial estate agent Ayers & Cruiks is marketing the snooker hall part of the property, at either £650,000 freehold or £40,000-a-year leasehold.

Steve Ayers, the company’s director, said: “The rear section of the building, which has permission to be turned into houses, has been sold and will be demolished.

“The front section is still on the market.

“The reason is that the previous lease was over the whole building, so our client needed to introduce a new lease for the remainder of the building.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in the building, but we’re hopeful it will soon have a new lease with a leisure company.”

Some negotiations are ongoing between Rileys and Ayres & Cruiks and a spokesman for Rileys is confident a deal will be struck.

He added: “We’re finalising negotiations on the lease for the refurbished premises and expect it to reopen in the autumn.”

Broadway Superbowl shut down last month.
