THE team behind the ambitious £60million Hadleigh masterplan is to confirm the plans are very much still alive.

Councillor Norman Smith, chairman of Hadleigh Regeneration Group, is set to attend the Endway Community Association’s public meeting this evening to keep residents in the loop about the controversial proposals.

The masterplan’s future was in doubt as many felt it had come to a standstill.

It appeared to be in jeopardy after county councillor Rodney Bass, responsible for highways, claimed he could not support the project, which includes restructuring the town’s road network.

David Hurrell, from Hadleigh and Thundersley Community Archive, said he has many unanswered questions about the scheme, including what will happen to the empty Hadleigh police station, whether plans are still in place to sell two car parks and if a new public hall will be built in Endway. He said: “Councillor Smith will get a fairly hard time because much of what he reports will be unpopular.’’ The plan to revitalise the town centre has previously been met with opposition by residents, who blasted it as a waste of money.

Mr Smith will discuss the proposals and answer questions at Hadleigh Methodist Church Hall, in Chapel Lane, Hadleigh, from 7.30pm.

He said: “A lot of people are interested in the regeneration, so it’s something residents want to know about, and we want to involve them whenever we can.

We will be giving residents an update.’
