FIRE crews were called to a kitchen blaze in Southend at 1.20pm today.
The fire, at a detached bungalow on Walsingham Road, was believed to have been triggered by a chip pan overheating.
Paramedics were called to the scene to treat an elderly couple believed to be in their eighties for smoke inhalation.
The fire was out when fire crews arrived at the scene, and a high pressure fan was used to clear the building of smoke.
