Courteney Cox has opened up about her split from David Arquette, revealing the couple have made an effort to stay friends for the sake of their daughter.

The 49-year-old actress - whose divorce from her Scream co-star was finalised last year after nearly 14 years of marriage - said she wishes nothing but happiness for ex-husband David, as he and his TV reporter girlfriend Christina McLarty await the arrival of their first child.

Courteney, who has nine-year-old daughter Coco with David, told More magazine: "When you love someone, you want them to be happy, even if it's not with you."

She added: "In divorce you always have regrets. We were married for a long time, so it's not like we didn't try.

"Obviously, kids always want their parents to be together. But as divorces go, this is the best one we could provide."

Christina, 38, and David, 42, are expecting a boy, due in around three months time.

The Cougar Town star, who turns 50 in June, also talked about getting older.

"Buck up. It ain't easy," she said. "Go to the doctor. Drink water. Sleep as much as you can. Exercise. I get massages - anything for your circulation. Stretch. It's all about keeping that body moving."
