Van windows kicked in road rage

Echo: The Tesco roundabout in Westcliff, where the incident occurred The Tesco roundabout in Westcliff, where the incident occurred

OFFICERS are appealing for information after a man's van windows were kicked in a fit of road rage.

A 63-year-old man from Westcliff was driving his van on the A127 slip road just before the Tesco roundabout, Westcliff, at about1pm on Sunday, February 9, when he was cut up by a vehicle, leading to him flashing his lights and using his horn.

Both vehicles stopped at the traffic lights and four men allegedly got out of their vehicle and kicked the victim’s van windows and side panel. He had to lock his doors as he was in fear of his safety.

The men then got back in their vehicle and drove away.

The victim was unable to get a description of the vehicle or the men inside and any witnesses are asked to contact PC Trevor Phillips at Southend on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Whilst I in no way condone this, beeping the horn and flashing lights at someone is an aggressive move which a lot of people seem to have got into the habit of doing on the roads. When was the last time you saw a horn used the way it should be as a warning rather than as a "shout" at someone who you believe has wronged you. If you walked up to someone in the street and flashed a light at them and honked a horn at them I'm guessing people would agree you provoked the attack.

As I said, I don't condone this and hope they are caught...just feel he kind of bought this on himself a bit.

Seems like he brought this on himself, perhaps he will think twice before being so aggressive in future. Hopefully the police wont waste to much time on this fool.

So using the horn on a car means you deserve to have it damaged? Why don't car manufacturers just change the wording on the horn button to "Smash the hell out of my car please!" What a ridiculous comment!

Takes two, to Tango, seems this "victim" gave it the large, and got "slapped", there's always going to be a victim, in such a squabble, though had he just taken it, instead of flashing his lights and sounding his horn, along with some verbally delivered delights? he wouldn't now be enjoying these glazing issues.

I use that roundabout several days a week and its enough to give anybody road rage . It is very hard to contain yourself when anything like that happens . but best just lock your door and drive away and live to fight another day. Where are the CCTV cameras.
