A CARAVAN was destroyed after it went up in flames.
Firefighters rushed to Thorney Bay Caravan Park, on Canvey, at 8.35pm last night after the fire took hold.
When they arrived they found one caravan was completely alight, and another had been severely damaged by heat.
Crews surrounded the area as they extinguished the blaze by 9.22pm.
A third caravan was also slightly damaged.
Divisional Officer Nigel Dilley said: "Both of Canvey's crews were here within minutes of us receiving the call and their quick response has prevented the fire from spreading to other caravans.
"Crews did an excellent job in getting the fire surrounded quickly and that has prevented this fire from spreading."
An investigation will take place to establish the cause of the fire.
