POLICE in Basildon received an unusual call when a resident got in touch to say they had seen a UFO.
Insp Rob Brettell, a member of the town's local policing team, revealed he had been asked to carry out a risk assessment on the unusual report.
The alleged UFO was spotted above Basildon Sporting Village, in Cranes Farm Road.
It is possible our extra-terrestrial visitors had learned of the feats of Olympic hero Max Whitlock, who trains at the sports centre, and wanted to get a glimpse of him.

Some of Mr Brettell's colleagues were quick to make light of the situation, suggesting the stars of TV's X Files could be drafted in to solve the mystery.
@InspBrettell If we ask nicely, I'm sure @davidduchovny & @GillianA will pop to #Essex for a quick investigation 👽👮🏻 #thetruthisoutthere
