The British Transport Police have confirmed the age and gender of the person killed by a train at Southend East train station earlier this week.
A spokesperson for the police stated that the victim was a 21-year-old woman.
Trains were cancelled and the line between Southend and Fenchurch Street was closed on Monday, January 9, while emergency services dealt with the incident which took place around 10am.
Paramedics worked alongside the police but sadly the young woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
