THE summer rain may have damaged many plants in the running for Canvey Horticultural Society's show, but it didn't dampen the enthusiasm of those who did enter.
With 141 entries - just over half last year's 239 - there was a distinct lack of garden plants because the rain had destroyed so many of them.
Society secretary Pat Harding, 63, of Berkeley Lane, Canvey, said: "Tall garden plants were shattered - we only had 50 entries in the rose section and the cut flowers category was almost non-existent.
"It is a shame because usually it's a lovely summer show."
There were, however, some promising results in the pot plant and vegetable sections.
The show results are as follows: RHS Rose Medal - Grace Scantlebury; Best Bloom - Rob Emberson for one of his orchids; Best Exhibit in Show - Pat Harding for her lilies; Vegetable and Fruit sections - Peter Harding; Domestics - Shirley Coates; Junior Section - Connie Sullivan.
