A MEMORIAL walk has been held in honour of a dedicated primary school teacher who died of cancer earlier this year.
More than 300 pupils, parents and staff at Heycroft Primary School, Eastwood, took part in the charity walk to remember Alex Storrar, 54, who died of secondary cancer in May.
The popular teacher, from Great Wakering, taught at the school for 25 years and was known as a keen sportsman who organised many after-school games for pupils.
Headteacher Chris Rus-sell said the event had been like a big reunion, as a lot of former pupils who remembered Mr Storrar fondly had gone along to take part. He added: "We opened a memory book for people as they came in and registered.
"They left lots of messages about him to say what a lovely teacher he was.
"Even if they didn't have him in their class, he did a lot of games so a lot of children had come into contact with him in the time they had been at the school."
The walk raised £760 for Cancer Research UK before the big day, but the final total has yet to be counted.
