A MOTHER is asking for help after the kidney she has given her daughter started to fail.

Ella Wishick, 19, of Leigh, received a kidney from her mother, Jo, after being born with chronic kidney failure in 2012.

However, it is now failing her and she desperately either needs a replacement or a safe place to have dialysis at home.

Her brother, Oliver, 14, had a kidney from their father, Mark, when he was just two after also being born with chronic kidney failure.

Jo said: “We haven’t been able to find anyone suitable to give her a kidney.

“I put an appeal out asking for people to come forward and so many have. “Even strangers have offered to get tested to see if they are a match.

“It is amazing the response we have had.”

Until a new kidney is found, Ella will need dialysis and has opted to have that at home.

Therefore, she needs a clean, sterile room where she can undergo the treatment without the risk of infection.

As well as encouraging people to donate their organs, the family are also asking if people could donate to help them build an extension so she can have a room of her own.

Jo added: “She currently shares a room with her 16-year-old sister Rosie, which isn’t ideal.

“She needs somewhere clean so that she isn’t at risk of getting another infection.

“She is also feeling very low at the moment with not a lot of energy.

“Having her own room would give her her own space and somewhere to go and veg out.

“People don’t realise how ill it can make you not having a working kidney.

“However, Ella is such a caring girl - more so than your average child.

“She will always take other children under her wing and look after them.”
