YOUNGSTERS saddled up during an action-packed American- themed gymkhana.
A total of 20 children, from Cedar Hal School, in Thundersley, and Hayward Special School, Chelmsford, took part in the annual Riding for the Disabled event.
The children's pony skills were stretched to the limit during a tricky obstacle course and theory test. But they all passed their grade one certificate with flying colours at Burches View, in Great Burches Road, Thundersley.
In keeping with the theme, young riders were also asked to lasso a toy lamb, salute and then complete a treasure hunt on horse back.
The American embassy supported the event by sending the youngsters US and UK flag badges to wear during the contest, won by Hayward pupil Steven Russell, 12.
