CASTLE Point Social Care Scheme is looking for volunteers to drive elderly and disabled residents around the borough.
The initiative, founded in 1997, is based at the Tyrells Centre, in Seamore Avenue, Thundersley.
It provides three minibuses to transport elderly people to 20 clubs around the borough, with two paid drivers and five volunteer drivers.
In an average month, the organisation makes more than 1,500 journeys, providing a vital service helping elderly people retain their independence and socialise.
The scheme also runs a car service which sees 27 volunteers using their own vehicles to chauffeur people around.
They receive a mileage allowance and out-of-pocket expenses. But on three occasions in the past year, volunteers could not transport all members - partly because of a shortage of drivers.
Volunteers who own their own car, and have a full driving licence and insurance, are now being sought. Contact Iris Brown on 01268 638411.
