IT was an unusual send off, but then not too many vicars are ardent footie fans.
The Rev Brenda Gutberlet said farewell to all her friends at Canvey Methodist Church who donned West Ham United gear for a special themed party in her honour.
The minister, a staunch Hammers supporter, had no idea the party had been planned to mark her move to the Hockley, Rayleigh and Rochford Methodist parish.
Jean Muncey, a member of the Wives' Club which organised the event, said: "We all dressed up in West Ham colours and she didn't know it was going to happen so it was a nice surprise. Brenda has been with us for many years and will be missed.
"She really enjoyed herself. She had great fun and had lots of presents and cards."
The Rev Martine Stemerick is now looking after the flock at Canvey Methodist Church.
