THE teenage daughter of former Basildon Tory MP David Amess has lost her licence, after pleading guilty to drink-driving and failing to report an accident.

Sarah Amess, of Crowstone Road, Westcliff, pleaded guilty at her first appearance at Southend Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The 18-year-old has been banned from driving for 16 months after admitting drink-driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident, all on August 6, in Leigh.

Simon Samuels, representing Amess, said: "When she reversed back into the car she did stop her car to ask her boyfriend what she should do. If she had gone back to her parents, they would have advised her to report it to police.

"If the police had not turned up at that point, the family would have arranged for her to report it to the police. She now understands the procedures involved."

The student was ordered to pay a total of £275 in costs and fines. Her driving licence will also be endorsed.

She was fined £150 for the drink-drive offence and £50 for the failure to stop.

She was also ordered to pay legal costs of £60, plus an extra £15 to cover court witnesses' costs.

Passing sentence, chairman of the magistrates' bench Christine Robinson said: "We are satisfied it was a relatively minor accident, but these are still serious offences. We have taken into account your early guilty plea."

Tory Southend West MP Mr Amess, who is married with five children, was not in court, but some family members were there to support the defendant
