A PROMISING politician has been delving into the world of decision-making.

Becky Kenyon, 18, travelled to Scotland to take part in the UK Youth Parliament's seventh annual sitting, at the University of Strathclyde.

Becky, who is Thurrock's representative on the National Youth Parliament, mixed with other elected members to discuss the needs of young people in their constituencies.

The four-day event involved workshops, debating, updating the youth parliament's manifesto and developing national campaigns for the year ahead.

Becky, who lives in Grays, said: "The event was an excellent experience which enabled me to network with other constituencies across the UK.

"This has helped me learn how they work, and how I can aid Thurrock to develop the best possible campaigns for our young people."

The youth parliament was launched at the House of Commons in July 1999, and there are currently more than 300 elected members.

Mike Revell, Thurrock's cabinet member for children's services, said the annual sittings were an important event in the calendar of the UK Youth Parliament.

He said: "Thurrock Council has always been exceptionally proud of the abilities of our members of the youth parliament, and their dedication to serving the young people of our borough."
