KIDS can get their skates on for two new roller discos taking place on Canvey this month.

Children can bring their Heelys, roller skates or roller blades along to Waterside Farm Sports Centre, off Somnes Avenue. The next sessions will run from 5.15pm until 7.15pm on Friday, August 24, and Friday, August 31.

There will be snow, smoke and bubble machines on hand and plenty of music provided by a resident DJ with his 1,000-watt sound system.

The sessions cater for six to 16-year-olds, though children under the age of eight need to be accompanied by a guardian.

Wendy Goodwin, chairman of Castle Point Council's community committee, said: "Heelys have become very popular this year, but the streets are not the best place for them.

"These sessions give young people a safe place to enjoy their Heelys or skates, with all the fun of a party thrown in too."

Kids must bring their own skates.

Admission to the sessions is £3.50 a child.
