KIDS had a fantastic time letting off steam at a new roller disco on Canvey.

More than 60 children packed the hall at Waterside Farm Sports Centre to perfect their skating moves in time to the latest chart hits.

The centre's smoke and bubble machines filled the venue, giving it a classic disco feel.

Youngsters brought along their Heelys and roller blades, whizzing round the room as the DJ pumped out pop anthems on the 1000 watt sound system.

Andy North, Waterside's duty manager, said: "The kids had the whole of the main hall, the size of six badminton courts, and we turned down all the lights for the disco. The mums had a great time watching them.

"It was well organised; there were two instructors, so it was a nice, safe environment for the kids. They had plenty of space to practise their moves and seemed to have a lot of fun."

This was the second roller disco organised through Castle Point Council this month. Two further events are planned at the centre, off Somnes Avenue,on Friday, August 24, and Friday, August 31.

The sessions cater for six to 16-year-olds and run from 5.15pm to 7.15pm. Children under eight need to be accompanied by a guardian.

Entry to the sessions is £3.50 per child. Youngsters need to bring their own skates.
