A NEW trial service has been launched in Castle Point for residents to recycle their paper-based drinks cartons.
Collection banks are now installed at Sainsbury's near Rayleigh Weir, Morrisons on Canvey and Richmond Hall car park, off Benfleet High Road.
Once collected they will be taken away to be baled and transported to a recycling mill. Items will be recycled into high strength paper bags and envelopes.
Ray Howard, chairman of the environment committee, said: "We have a wide range of recycling facilities across the borough for residents to take advantage of, but we are always looking for ways to enhance the service.
"We are delighted to be taking part in this trial and if it's successful we would like to see it rolled out further."
The scheme has been set up in conjunction with Tetra Pak and the carton industry body Ace UK.
