A BUILDER is facing a large bill after his work van and car were hit by another vehicle.

Derek Bailey, from Leigh, parked his Alfa Romeo and van outside his girlfriend's home in North Crescent, Prittlewell, on Sunday night.

He said: "My van has been written off.

"It was pushed into the back of my car which is also damaged, but is driveable. I've had to use my car for work."

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and failing to stop following an accident.

The 53-year-old, from Southend, was released on police bail to return on September 20.
