TECHNOLOGY whizzkids from South East Essex College have dreamed up their own futuristic computer games console.

The three BND Media (Games Development) students' design for a new kind of games computer called the Dreamer won them a state-of-the-art PS3 console in a competition.

To enter, Louis Crook, from Canvey, and pals Vincent Armstrong, and Ricky Hodgson to come up with a design for their dream games machine of the future.

The 18-year-olds' solution used Nanobots - ultra-small robots with sensors - as part of their dream console.

He explained: "Nanobots connect to your brain and allow you to feel as if you are living the game.

"With the Nanobots, we took our influence from the world of sci-fi, such as the Matrix, I, Robot and the work of Iain M Banks.

"As games and graphics become ever more realistic, we just thought this would be the ultimate gaming experience."

They also had to devise a suitable game to run on their machine and chose extreme sports, such as skydiving, snowboarding and white water rafting as the basis of their game.

Louis said when the technology finally caught up with their imaginations and such realistic gaming became possible, it could completely transform the way people lived their lives.

He added: "You could argue such a game would be better for the environment, as people woudn't have to fly around the world to experience these adrenalin rushes, making their carbon footprint lower."
