AN 80-YEAR-OLD woman is to stand trial after pleading not guilty to defrauding Basildon Council out of more than £22,000 in benefits.
Amelia Farulli, of Mapleford Sweep, Vange, appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court and denied 12 counts of making dishonest and false representations to obtain housing and council tax benefits.
Farulli is alleged to have been overpaid £22,036 in benefits over a five-year period.
She was released on bail to return to the court on Thursday, September 13 when she will be committed to Basildon Crown Court for trial.
